Goal Setting for Increasing Metabolism

Goal setting would have to be one of the most important steps in any fitness program that needs to be properly addressed to achieve any significant results.

We are all creatures of habit with behavior patterns and physical traits that we might not like, but are accustomed to.

In order for you to change your current physical condition and behaviour in any real significant and long lasting way you are going to need to set goals.

Why Do I Need Goals?

Goal setting helps you to stay focused on your objective as the path becomes blurred by sweat and sacrifice and the temptation to return to our old easier ways becomes far greater.

Without a goal, your old behaviour patterns will eventually over-ride any decision that you have made to make changes to your lifestyle.

What are your goals?

If your goal is to increase metabolism and lose weight then there are a few things you will need to make clear.

Be Specific: When goal setting, you need to clearly state what it is that you want to achieve.

As an example it may be to lose 20 lb.

This is a specific goal that you can write down and measure your progress against. You know exactly when you do achieve it and can celebrate it when you do, making it a rewarding process.

Set a goal that is attainable - Don't set unrealistic goals that you can't possibly achieve such as losing 20 lb in one week (or that sacrifice your health in the process).

Set a specific time for achieving the goal. This helps you to focus your efforts within a certain period.

For this reason I like to set 8 week goals, I am able to stay focused during the 8 weeks on reaching the goal I have set, after then I start to lose focus.

I also like to change my exercise program every 8 weeks as my muscles will have started to adapt around this stage and results will start to slow.

Why are you wanting to achieve your goals?

This is probably the most important question that you can ask yourself when goal setting.

If your reason why, does not give you the motivation and desire that you need to achieve your goal, then chances are you will not reach it.

Gyms and health clubs have lots of inactive members who have started a health program and then a short time later just given up and gone back to their old ways.

For them once their initial enthusiasm starts to wane and the reasons why they started (like New Years Resolutions) are forgotten, all they see is hard work, sacrifice and reasons to stop going.

As you set your goals think of why you want to achieve them and visualise yourself as having achieved them, imagine what you would look and feel like, you may see your friends and family complimenting you on your positive changes and lock this image and these feelings into your memory.

When things get tough as they inevitably will during your journey, it is important that you keep focused on why you want to achieve them and focus on your images of success.

Having clear goals to focus you and visualising the rewards at the end will help to push you through the challenging times when hard work and sacrifice are needed to get the results you are wanting and temptation rears its ugly head.

It might be when your friends have organized a night out on the same night you have to go to cycle class or weight training.

If you can focus on your goals and why you want to achieve them, it will help you resist the temptation so you can put off your night out with friends until you have achieved your goals.

Then go out and have a double celebration with them, it will be a very rewarding night, especially when your friends start complimenting you on how much fitter and healthier you look.

How are you going to achieve your goals?

Write down how you are going to achieve your goals, this is the roadmap to your success. You will find all the information on how to increase metabolism and lose weight on this site.

How many nights a week can you devote to training, in Metabolism Zone I discuss why 5 times a week for an hour per day will help you achieve your weight loss goals.

You should discuss your fitness goals with a qualified medical practitioner to determine what would be a healthy and realistic goal to set.

I wish you luck in reaching your goals.
